Tanjung Puting National Park in Kalimantan, Indonesia, offers an extraordinary adventure into the heart of Borneo’s lush rainforests, providing a chance to encounter diverse wildlife, immerse in local culture, and witness the conservation efforts aimed at protecting endangered species orangutans. The tour usually begins with a journey into the national park, which covers approximately 4000 square kilometers of tropical rainforest Indonesian wooden riverboat, along the meandering Sekonyer River, offering breathtaking views of the dense jungle and its inhabitants.

Tanjung Puting is renowned for its diverse wildlife, most notably the critically endangered Bornean orangutans. Tourists have the opportunity to observe these intelligent primates in their natural habitat, swinging through the trees, feeding, and interacting with each other. Other wildlife sightings may include proboscis monkeys, gibbons, macaques, and a plethora of bird species.

Day 1

 

  • Depature from Soekarno Hatta International Airport
  • Arrive at Iskandar Airport, Pangkal Bun
  • Heading Towards Kumai
  • Arrive at Kumai Port
  • The boat will start to cruise along Kumai River and will turn to Skonyer towards Tanjung Putting National Park. Along the way, you can enjoy the mangrove forest scenery of the Skonyer River. You will see the local fishermen on traditional wooden boats looking for fish along the river bank, covered with Nipa Palm trees. If you are lucky, you might be able to spot macaques, proboscis monkeys, water lizards, kingfishers and hornbills are frequently sighted in morning.
  • Light breakfast is served
  • Lunch is served while cruising
  • Arrive at Tanjung Harapan and start walking towards the feeding area
  • Arrive at the feeding area and observe Orangutan
  • Head towards the boat
  • Arrive at the boat where snacks and refreshments are served
  • Boat will start cruising towards Pondok Tanggui
  • Arrive at Pondok Tanggui. The boat will dock here over night
  • Dinner – Depending on the weather, we will prepare the dinner either at the pier; if it is raining, we will prepare the dinner on the boat. While you enjoy your dinner, the upper deck will be converted into a sleeping area, where mattress will be laid and covered with mosquito nets.
  • Star gazing or rest – end of day
Day 2

 

  • Breakfast is served
  • Head towards the feeding area
  • Arrive at the feeding area
  • Start heading back to the boat
  • Back at the boat where snacks and refreshments are served, while the boat will start moving towards Camp Leakey
  • Lunch is served
  • Arrive at Camp Leakey and head towards the feeding area
  • Arrive at the feeding area and observe Orangutan
  • Head back towards the boat, and boat will start cruising to an overnight docking by the river while enjoying the sunset; by this time, Proboscis monkeys would have returned to the tree tops along the river banks
  • Dinner is served
  • Restend of day
Day 3

 

  • Breakfast is served
  • Boat will start cruising towards Pondok Tanggui
  • Arrive at Pondok Tanggui for trekking
  • Back at the boat and lunch is served
  • Head towards Sekonyer Village
  • Take a wooden boat to explore nearby villages
  • Head Back to the boat and refreshment is served – boat will cruise towards the Nipah Palm tree for overnight stay
  • Arrive at the Nipah Palm Tree area
  • Dinner – Enjoy the beauty of the night sky and relax at the deck of the boat while you witness a wonderful light show of fireflies playing on the trees.
  • End of the Day
Days 4

 

  • Breakfast is served
  • The boat will start cruising toward Kumai Port
  • Arrive at Kumai Port and head to the airport
  • Arrive at the Airport and check in Departure to Jakarta
Please find a packing list below to prepare for the trip:

 

  • T-shirt or polo shirts. (Light/loose clothing is preferred. We’ll be in warm weather, so it’s recommended to have 3 t-shirts per day to be the most comfortable).
  • Rain coat (also available on the boat).
  • Light or loose pants (jeans are not recommended, instead bring 2 pairs of pants per day).
  • Hats, visors, or something to keep the sun out of your face.
  • Sneakers, socks, and trekking shoes.
  • Toiletries & any meds (towels, shampoo, and soap is available on the boats)
  • Mosquito repellents (also available on the boat).
  • Light jacket (it will be cool at night).
  • Folding umbrella (optional)
Other important information:

 

  • Please bring your own mobile/iPad/gadget accessories/adaptors (Indonesian power sockets are available on the boats).
  • 4G/5G mobile signal only available throughout 40% of the journey.
  • Bottled water and dispensers are available on the boat.
  • Swimming is strictly prohibited, so swimwear is unnecessary.
